Should be working.....

So this is a secret post...shhh...I'm at work, but just had to reflect on how the taste of certain foods can take you back home. Well I just had that moment. Our Legislative Director, who just happens to be from Columbus, had her birthday this past weekend. What was her cake? Just the most amazing Turtle Cheesecake from Jubilations......I had a slice a minute ago and was instantly taken back to Columbus.

If you do not know me that well, then I have to tell you that Turtle Cheesecake from Jubilations is my favorite and just so happens to be my birthday cake. Has been for many years. So if you are feeling generous, send one to me :) It's not my birthday, but will be soon. Oh yeah, and I like the cake to have a nut less crust. They make it, I know.

Confessions.....

You know the book, you know the movie, but do you really understand its reality? I'm about to take you deeper than you can imagine. The reality is that you may not understand the true meaning of a shopaholic; that is, until you see it from my perspective……….. these are the confessions of a shopaholic’s husband. That’s right. Yes, a shopaholic can “confess”, but never whole heartedly. They leave out little secrets or make their “confession” seem sweet and innocent so you end up feeling sorry for them. From my perspective and my confessions, you will get the truth; open to public, without buffering.

Shopping for labels, shopping for love. Oh wait. She has already found love (uughh me!) so it’s the first part that still continues, right? Or is the love really me? She shops for labels AND for love. The love of finding that perfect black, long-sleeve, leather, crop jacket that features a zip closure and waist zip pockets, handmade in Italy that will go perfectly over that flowing Rebecca Taylor top, bottomed with her black Blank Skinny jeans and of course her to die for black patent Jimmy Choo booties. Now that is true love. Why can't she just find that jacket! Geeez, that outfit would be like totally perfect and cute. For sure.
And you wonder how I know all about the labels? Because I am a shopaholic’s husband. I have to know what brands are “in” and “out” for the season. I have to know what brands are Contemporary (which means of the time, i.e. Rebecca Taylor, MINT, Milly) and what brands are staples in fashion (i.e. Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, etc.). Yes, being a shopaholic’s husband is much different from being a regular husband. It takes a strong person to be one; you can’t just become one overnight. You must be educated, knowledgeable, passionate, and dedicated. A normal husband doesn’t get the pleasure of receiving countless emails from their wives during the work day with nothing in the text but “so cute”, “I love this”, or just simply “please?” followed by a link to a dress, a pair of shoes, or a hand bag. Wait…..did I just say “hand bag” and not purse…That’s a Shopaholic’s Husband for you, SAH for short.
Part I- The Beginning

Where did this begin? I have to wonder if it began years ago. One picture comes to mind. Lo as a tiny person dressed in her moms knee highs and pearls singing at the top of her lungs. The singing didn't last, but boy did that love for fashion. Since then it has been a nonstop ride. Flash forward to the side ponies, oversized shirts, stirrup pants, and keds. Then on to high school, where the days were filled with school dress codes, but fear not… bebe was waiting every Friday for that perfect top for the weekend...ahhh the glorious bebe tops.

College. Oh. My. Her addiction is in full effect. She has moved from phase 2 - Mental Addiction to phase 3 - Physical Addiction. Phase 3 is the last and most serious form of addiction. Intervention should have occurred. Endless hours of online shopping consumed most of her time, but those miniskirts and high heels made the boys turn. I must admit, that online shopping got me. So should I thank shopbop.com for bringing us together? Or her parents? Or both? For if it wasn’t for her parents buying her that computer and mini mouse, that shopbop website would have not utilized. But then if shopbop had not been created, that black mini skirt and lime green heals would not have been purchased. But then again, if mommy and daddy's credit card did not contain the perfect numbers for easy memorization, then those items would also not have been available for purchase. It gets really complicated.
During the writing of this, I realized this cannot be just one post. It deserves multi-posting. Therefore, I will sign off for the moment and let you wonder what happens next with Confessions of a Shopaholic’s Husband.

It's summer here in the District, which means more people are outside. The weather, wind, and scenery have been amazing. It has been a couple of months since we moved into our new place. The change is phenomenal. Currently, I am sitting on a couch watching t.v. I can honestly say that 100% of the people who read this blog do not understand the importance of a couch because you have always had one. We, on the other hand, did not had a couch for, count it, TEN MONTHS. That is a really long time. Don't get me wrong, Lo and I loved our pallets and pleather uni-seater chairs, but those days are thankfully over. When we get ready for bed, we actually have to walk into a bedroom and close a door. Funny, the small things that gets us in life.

This morning, we got up and went to church. Lo and I have been looking for a church to call home. We currently attend a Methodist one on the Hill, but it just doesn't click with me. Call me a good ol' Southern boy, but I like to go into a church and have people greet you as if they have known you all your life, regardless if they have or not. Just doesn't happen here. I am used to a preacher mixing college football into the sermon, not the happenings of Healthcare Reform or Harvard professors and Cambridge cops. I deal with politics on a daily basis and prefer NOT to listen to it during church. What happened to the separation of Church and State? I understand I live in the Nation's capitol, but geez. On our walk home, it was the topic of our discussion (as you can tell I'm pretty upset about it). We just have to continue to have faith and trust that a church will come into our lives. I think we need to make our way into Virginia.

I am about to sign off on The Wolo. It's dinner and movie night at the PentHouse! (on our couch)!! Until next time.......

Lucky :)

"Lucky I'm in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
Lucky we're in love in every way
Lucky to have stay were we have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday...."

- Jason Mraz

That's all for tonight... love, LO

If it could be done all over again...

Don't get me wrong, I loved my wedding. It was exactly like Lauren and I. However, if we could have a do over this is what we would have done.

Can you imagine the looks on everyone's face?

Writing often is best when the author is in a state of happiness or in a state of depression. I am in neither of the two, but wondered if I should even attempt to blog about this. But then I got to thinking, our readers always see the happy times of The Wolo. We are human and go through struggles and dips in life just like everyone else. Why not post those occurrences? In order to truly get one side, you must also understand the other, right?

How can a fight in a relationship lead to a deeper, more passionate love for that same person hours ago you momentarily despised? It seems like an oxymoron or some twisted idea thought up by the most unpleasant human being. But no, just a regular man who has fallen more in love because of a misunderstanding, probably brought on by a long day of stress, work, and a little bit of alcohol. While I am being openly honest about my human nature, this was not the first and for sure not the last of our quarrels. But this one has caused me to reflect on some that have previously taken place. After the storm has past, one thing has occurred every time for me, is a profound knowing that that person I said I will love forever has again made me fall more in love than the day before.

No matter what the cause of the tornado (i.e. our fights) wait. disagreements, the result for me is always clear. I love my wife. I have also found I can't stay mad at her... I try to believe me, especially when I'm right (which is rare). But she is just way too darn cute. I know that I am placing myself on the chopping block because I have exposed top secret information that now jeopardizes/eliminates what chance of a fight I had left on my side.

But in the end, what's important is the faith that all our disagreements, once worked through, will build a better foundation for our future and make our love and devotion stronger. Long live the Wolo!

Season 2

Lauren has already mentioned our lack of blogging. At the same time, frequent followers have requested new posts, but let's not get greedy here.

Our absence from the blogging world is like your favorite TV show that has ended for the season. You long for the new season to begin, but know the wait will be well worth it. While not posting, we have researched, filmed, and gathered numerous topics that should make Season 2 of The Wolo even better than the first. Of course, we will take looks back into the first season that will clarify the goings on of the new season.

This season of The Wolo….. New characters, intense drama, and enlightened happiness are just a few of the exciting happenings (or not so) in the daily lives of two individuals set out to conquer their dreams in the midst of reality setbacks. Through their eyes, watch as their lives unfold…

Note: The theme song is playing throughout this.

Until Next Time.

Failures

Yes. I know. I am fully aware. Wesley and I have become blogging failures. I will admit that I am ashamed. I thought I would take this full steam ahead and really become a master blogger. That didn't happen. So many things have happened since our last blog and I will update you on them all... but not now. Because again I am a failure and don't feel like it. So I will just give you a preview... Just a little taste of blogs to come...

1. WE MOVED. Yes we finally have a one bedroom apartment. Pictures will be uploaded.
2. We have had so many great visitors! Yes, we love you all and you each will get a shout out for being such great friends. :)
3. Fourth of July in DC. Nothing beats it - you will get a full run down of the festivities.
4. Ellen and Danny got married! Best wedding week/ weekend of my life. Check out the pics on facebook - it was awesome.
5. Amanda and Gunn also got married! Oxford, friends, square, weddings = happiness. (I actually think I am going to do a full shout out to all my friends who have gotten married this year. We will see if this actually happens... I am setting high hopes.)
6. Wesley got a promotion! We are moving up the political ladder. :)
7. Taste of the South. Southern states society black tie ball. Southern food, Southern drinks, Southern friends - enough said.
8. Rehoboth Beach - Our first vacation since our honeymoon. It rained the whole time... sweet.
9. Virginia Wine Tasting. Booyahh.
10. I can't think of a 10th... but there is something else fun that has gone on in my life.

That's all I've got for now. LC

Pure Laziness

Elevators. I hate them. Despise them. I have to travel up and down them daily. Sometimes, when I am on them, they (the elevators) think it is very funny to stop at every floor, even when no one is wanting to get on. News flash: Not funny. They also like to stop at every floor when you are waiting for it, are really hungry, and just want to get down to the basement and grab a bag of chips and a Twix because the meal you ate for lunch did not suffice your hunger.

Another thing that truly irritates me, truly, are people who use the elevator for pleasure. At my office building, you enter on the 1st floor. A few weeks ago, I started an observance. It begin because of the following instance:

Like every morning, I walk through security and make my way to the elevators. I'm waiting to go the 5th floor, when a lady walks up and stands beside me. We wait for about 3-4 minutes and then the elevator door opens. We get on; I hit the 5th floor button and then ask her what floor. She responds, "2nd please". You have got to be kidding me. I was furious. Really the second floor. I wanted to tell her she could have already been at her desk facebooking if she wasn't so lazy.

A week or so has passed now and my observances have continued. People USE THE STAIRS. This is one of the reasons Americans are so fat. They would rather wait and eat their chocolate donut than walk up a flight of 23 stairs; I counted them. Let me preface that these stairs loop around, gradually getting higher as you walk. Not treacherous at all.

The more I see people doing this, the louder my sigh becomes. I even made a "Really?" comment to a girl my age when she did this on the elevator. She knew I was pissed. I mean come on people.

I think I am going to ask Obama if I can be the Senate Elevator Czar and start controling this issue. Seriously.
